The house is well away from villages but not at all remote. It is exceptionally well equipped and satisfied the needs of a family group with an age range of 7 to 70 without a hitch. Our stay was during the heatwave of August so the large pool was the chief attraction and pool sharing was never a problem.. Tennis, cycling and even long walks were all available but the heat kept them off our agenda. We found markets, shops and river swimming all within easy driving distance. The brief and direction given before arrival were first class and there was plenty of further material in the house.
This is a remarkably peaceful area with very light traffic and none of the hassle that is found astride the Dordogne a few miles to the South. The hilltop site of L'Ancien Chai means that a light breeze moderates the hottest of days and there are amazing views in every direction.

Amateur wildlife enthusiast Rod Gibson shares this album of butterflies and insects he spotted in the grounds of L'Ancien Chai in September 2016. 12 different butterflies alone where he might expect say 6, so a very rich fauna on site.
